Now move into a short play starred by 12-year-old Alice, Alice's mother Joyce and Alice's father James.

10:00 a.m. , May 13th, 2018
Alice: Surprise!
(Alice jumped out from her mother's back)
（艾莉丝突然从妈妈背后窜了出来）
Alice: Surprise! Happy Mother's Day! I love you, mom, and it will never, never change.
(A big hug for mother)
艾莉丝：惊喜吧！母亲节快乐！我爱你，妈妈，并且永远爱你。
（艾莉丝给了妈妈一个大大的拥抱）
Alice's mom: "Oh, really? It's my day? Thank you, my sweetie.'
艾莉丝的妈妈：真的吗？今天原来是母亲节呀？要谢谢你了，宝贝。
Alice: This is for you, a cupcake that I made on my own. It looks delicious, right?
艾莉丝：这是送给您的。这是我亲手做的蛋糕。看起来很好吃，对不对？
Alice's mother: Yeah, it is almost as pretty as you. Let me have a taste first. Oh, gorgeous.
艾莉丝的妈妈：啊，小蛋糕真的很漂亮，都快赶上你了。先让妈妈尝一口，(⊙v⊙)嗯，真的很好吃！
Alice: Really?
艾莉丝：真的吗？
Alice's mother: Of course…and, sweetie, I have a question for you.
艾莉丝的妈妈：当然，对了，甜心儿，妈妈有个问题想问问你。
Alice: What?
艾莉丝：哦，是什么问题？
Alice's mom: …Do you have any complaint about me?
艾莉丝的妈妈：你会怨妈妈吗？
Alice: What? Why?

Alice's mom: Cause you know, I'm not a stay-at-home mother like some of others. I cannot spend as much time as your dad and might not show up properly when you need me. Besides, I often have urgent over-time work. I'm afraid you will not like me as dearly as your dad.
艾莉丝的妈妈：因为，你知道的，妈妈并不像有些妈妈一样做全职太太。我无法长久得陪伴在你身边，甚至在你需要我的时候我也不能适时出现。有时候，我还要加班。我担心，你并没有如同爱你爸爸那般很爱很爱我。
Alice: Of course not!

Alice's mom: Really? Not a little?
艾莉丝的妈妈：真的吗？这的一点埋怨都没有吗？
Alice: No…totally sincere from my bottom of my heart. You should always bear in mind that I love you, and I'm your little girl, who will not be stolen no matter how much time you spend with me... Surely it would be better if you have more time.
艾莉丝：没有，真的没有，这是我的肺腑之言。妈妈，你要记住，我是爱你的，不管你陪伴我的时间有多短，我都是你的小棉袄，谁也偷不走。当然，你要是有更多时间陪伴我，我肯定会很开心。
Alice's mom: Oh, my little girl. I love you, and I will arrange more time at home.

(Finally Alice's mother couldn't help kissing her little girl excitedly and did not see there's a faint of strangeness appearing on Alice's look, which caught by Alice's father, a man standing behind them with a camera.)

"不是说艾莉丝是马大哈吗？可是她有给母亲准备礼物呀！"

回到昨日，即5月12日
It was 10:00pm.
晚上10点整。
Alice: What day is it tomorrow?
(Alice smiled secretly.)
艾莉丝：明天是什么日子呀？
（艾莉丝神秘得笑了笑。）
Alice's father: Emm, let me have a look at the calendar.
艾莉丝爸爸：呃。。。。。。我看看日历就知道了。
(Alice's father got the calendar. )
（艾莉丝的爸爸拿了日历。）
"It's Sunday."
（"是星期日。"）
Alice: So you still remember what you promised me the last last Monday? You said you would take me to the amusement park this Sunday, you promised!
艾莉丝：那你还记得你答应过我什么吗？你上上周一说过这周日要带我去游乐场的。这可是你说的哦。
Alice's Father: Wait, (with a serious face beyond belief， and then suddenly raised up his head. )
"It's the second Sunday of May? !"
艾莉丝的爸爸：等等（神色凝重又带着些许不可置信，接着艾莉丝的爸爸猛然抬起头。），
"今天是五月的第二个星期日？！"
Alice's father: Oh , my God. Tomorrow is Mother's Day. How could I forgot that?
艾莉丝的爸爸：天哪，明天是母亲节，我居然给忘了。
Alice: What? Oh, my god. I didn't prepare anything.
(Alice looked nervous and worried.)
艾莉丝：什么？我的老天爷你怎么这么耍我？我啥也没准备。
（艾莉丝看起来紧张又焦虑。）
"Then what shall we do now? There is no time left for us to prepare a delicate gift!"
"这可怎么办？都没时间准备礼物了！"
Alice' father: It's OK. Take it easy, we still have 10 hours left.
(Alice's mother usually gets up at 10 when she takes days off.)
艾莉丝的爸爸：没事的，放松点，（总会想到办法的），起码我们还有十个小时的时间。
（艾莉丝的妈妈休假时通常10点起床。）
"Let me think about it." Having the sights set on the eggs at the table, Alice' father said:"You know how to make cupcakes, right?"You can make one for your mom.
"让我想想，"艾莉丝的爸爸的视线触及桌子上的鸡蛋，，说道："你不是刚学会了纸杯蛋糕吗？你给妈妈做个蛋糕就好了。"
Alice: That's a good idea. Let's do it right now.
艾莉丝：真是个好主意。那我们事不宜迟现在就开始。
Alice' father: To be exact, it's you that need to start making cupcakes rather than "us". Remember, Mother's Day is a day that children do something for their moms.

Alice was busy whipping eggs.

It's commonly accepted that the modern Mother's Day is celebrated on every second Sunday of May.
